Dr. Sharaf Hassan is a sociologist, educator, and social and political activist. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Tel Aviv University. His doctoral dissertation examined civil society organizations and the struggle over hegemony in the teaching of civics within the school system in Israel.

Dr. Hassan served as Head of the Follow-Up Committee on Arab Education from 2018 to 2025, a representative professional body within Arab-Palestinian society that leads struggle and works in various ways to promote and protect the educational rights of Arabs in Israel.

Between 2019 and 2021, he was a fellow at the Mandel School for Educational Leadership. He previously served as Director of the Education Department at the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, a teaching fellow in the Department of Sociology at Tel Aviv University, and a Social Sciences teacher at Al-Khwarizmi School in Tamra.

Since 2021, he has been a lecturer at Oranim Academic College of Education, where he currently heads the Department of Sociology. He is also a Research Fellow at the Center for Public Humanities at Tel Aviv University.

In 2024, he was awarded the Human Rights Award by the Association for Civil Rights in recognition of his work for human rights, peace, and in particular for advancing equitable education.

His research and areas of interest include civil society, social inequality and marginalized populations, struggles in the educational field, teacher activism, anti-racist and human rights education, citizenship education in Israel, and educational processes among the Palestinian Arab minority in Israel.
